The Three Musketeers Prologue

It’s not necessarily the biggest release this holiday season, but if you’re looking for some weekend entertainment before the blockbusters start rolling into theaters then The Three Musketeers might be just what you’re looking for. It’s an adaptation of the all too well known tale originally by Alexander Dumas. This time, it’s brought to you by Paul W. S. Anderson and stars Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, and Juno Temple. Obviously, the adaptation has its own twist, looking to cast itself in a more modern, CG-heavy retelling (which is usually a bad sign, but you never know!).

It’s somewhat notable in that it is one of a still growing number of films actually shot in 3D as opposed to being converted during post-production. So if you’re a fan of the third dimension and want another taste of it done well, this action-flick may be your answer (or it’ll at least keep you satisfied until the family-friendly CG adventures start opening). I won’t make the claim that it will be as amazing as Avatar or the upcoming TinTin and Hugo, as I haven’t seen the film, but I would hope that there’s only so much they can mess up when you start in 3D and work from there.

Currently, iTunes Movie Trailers is showing the first five minutes of the film and also providing the obligatory marketing material to help you locate showtimes and tickets. Even if you’re skeptical, it can’t hurt to check out these five minutes and see if your mind changes. A general rule of thumb is that if a story doesn’t catch your attention in the first five-ten minutes, it isn’t worth continuing. Let’s put that rule to use!

It’s not scoring too well on Rotten Tomatoes, but always take that with a grain of salt. In the end, it may not be revolutionary but it may just be fun enough to spend the ticket price with you and your friends/family. The trailer is below, but be sure to check out the preview linked about. And let us know what you think should you see it! The Three Musketeers opens this weekend nationwide.
