A new theatrical trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows has been released, check it out with some commentary below!
The first trailer played off of the excitement of both of current vision of Holmes as well as Downey’s portrayal but gave us little in terms of plot. This trailer fixes that, cuing us in that Professor James Moriarty will be the villain they seek after, and it’ll take them on chases through forests, trains, and the streets of London and Paris. I was a bit confused at first with how early they revealed Moriarty, as his character is designed as playing things from the shadows, but if a more public arch nemesis is the route Guy Richie and crew is taking then I trust them to do something new with it. The trailer expertly takes everything audiences loved about the first one (i.e. Robert Downey, Jr.) and shows us that there’s that plus so much more to look forward to. From the explosions, disguises, and slow motion shots, everything about this trailer says the sequel will be bigger, badder, and better then its predecessor.
Add to this the recent rumors/expectations for a new Dark Knight Rises trailer to be attached to Game of Shadows, and there’s not all that much reason not to see it…unless you absolutely hated the first one. Starring Downey, Jr. and Jude Law along with Jared Harris as Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens in the U.S. 16 December. Midnight showing, anyone?
